When RGV’s obsession of making political films going to end??

Ram Gopal Varma

Trailer of Ram Gopal Varma’s new film “Kamma Rajyam Lo Kadapa Reddlu” got released today. From the trailer it becomes clear that RGV’s obsession with mimicking real life personalities by using their lookalike’s in films has continued here as well. After picking an actors who look exactly like their real life counterparts for his previous film Lakshmi’s NTR which too was based on the political developments surrounding the final days of N T Ramarao, his second wife and former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu. The later film too deals with the more recent political events including the ongoing political rivalry between Jaganmohan Reddy and Chandrababu Naidu. We see caricaturish characters of Nara Lokesh, his wife and even Pawan Kalyan. Even though we need to wait and watch for the impact of the movie, for now we can say that the movie will either shake the state political bodies or will be taken as a joke.

Ever since his last watchable political thriller Raktacharitra managed to create some roar, RGV has fallen into an obsession of making movies on real life events mostly based out of his home state Andhra Pradesh. The director , who changed the course of Indian cinema with classic’s like Shiva, Satya, Rangeela and Company seems to have lost his magic touch of making films where the craft of film making will be discussed before its subject. His decision to pick stories out of real life Incidents could also indicate that he is out his own stories to make films. Only time will tell whether RGV,who made Satya will ever make a comeback in true sense.
