Much awaited theatrical release of Tamil actor Suriya’s next “Soorarai Pottru” is under threat after his production house 2D Entertainment took the decision of releasing Jyothika’s next Pon Magal Vandhal on OTT platform directly. This decision has irked the theater association of Tamil Nadu and they are planning to issue a red card to Suriya and to ban his future releases in Tamil Nadu starting with his upcoming venture “Soorarai Pottru”.
Soorai Pottru and Pon Magal Vandhal were scheduled for a summer release. But due to lockdown due to coronavirus, a decision was taken by 2D entertainment to release the movie on Amazon Prime instead of waiting for the theatrical release. Tamilnadu Theater owners association has condemned this decision and has issued a statement saying that they had requested the makers of Pon Magal Vandhal to change their decision, but they had denied it.
After the debacle of his last venture “NGK”, fans of Suriya have pinned high hopes on Soorarai Pottru which is loosely based on the life of Air Deccan founder G R Gopinath. Soorarai Pottru is directed by Sudha Kongara and stars Suriya and Aparna Balamurali in lead.
On the other hand, Pon Magal Vandhal is directed by debutante director JJ Fredrick.Apart from Jyothika, this movie stars a bunch of veteran actors including K Bhagyaraj, R Parthipen, Pandiarajan,Prathap Pothen,Thiagarajan etc. The movie is scheduled for a digital release on May 5,2020.
