Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo – The writer Trivikram Srinivas is back.

Trivikram Srinivas, the man who gave us so many classics as a writer and so many really good movies as a director, is coming back with Allu Arjun again after 2 successful movies like Julayi and Son of Sathyamurthy is itself such a huge reason to look forward to this movie, and on top of that SS Thaman’s Music album which is an absolute chartbuster (Arguably his best), and Allu Arjun coming back after a short sabbatical made me curious about this project.

Even though the trailer looked like a rehash of Agnyatavaasi, I was hoping that Trivikram won’t do such blunder again. So basically what I was hoping for is, a reasonably decent movie from this combination. Instead what I got is something I haven’t even expected.

Mr.Trivikram Srinivas has given one of the best movies of his career, probably his best after Athadu. Unlike his previous works after Athadu there are no unnecessary scenes, unwanted comedy, silly rhyming dialogues for no reason here. Every scene is served as a lead to the other, every dialogue had a meaning and purpose especially in the second half of the film.

I want to write specifically about 2 scenes here…

  1. The intermission block – scenes which lead to this point in the movie and what actually happens in that particular scene is something we haven’t seen from Trivikram in a long time, the director has taken a back seat here and the master writer inside Trivikram took the charge of driving it. And such a wonderful job, he reminds you of why he is called ‘Guruji’ by his fans again.
  2. The Scene immediately post Intermission – After that Big twist which was revealed to our hero during the intermission scene, I was interested to see how the director will deal this situation from here on, how this will change the dynamics of that father and son duo? There were few doubts in my mind like these because honestly after this point the movie could’ve gone anywhere, it could’ve gone in a complete illogical way of typical Telugu commercial movie’s path or the director could’ve stuck to the narrative and dealt it with utmost care giving the wheels to human emotions and travelling along with them to let the story take its own path.

Fortunately, and surprisingly Trivikram didn’t take the easy route, he chose the latter one and he let the story take its own path, this is where the writer excelled in him. Trivikram Srinivas told his audience what is about to happen post intermission in this one scene, the confrontation between Allu Arjun and Murali Sharma is Pure Gold.

The above mentioned 2 scenes wouldn’t have worked so well if the actors had not given their absolute best. Special mention to Murali sharma here who, throughout the movie did a fantastic job of a jealous middle class father.

And there are very few actors in TFI today who say so much without saying anything at all, they just command the screen with their eyes. The intermission scene is one such testament to the acting prowess of Allu Arjun. In entire intermission scene he had just two lines but he expressed so much in that scene just with his eyes that, I felt if Mr. Chiranjeevi watches this film he will be so proud of Allu Arjun.

Have to mention SS Thaman’s Background music here, setting aside chartbuster music album, he has done a fantastic job of elevating those well written scenes with his background score.

The story actually revolves around these 7 characters (Allu Arjun, Murli Sharma, Jayram, Tabu, Sachin khedekar, Pooja Hegde, Sushant, Nivetha Pethuraj) and all of these actors did really good job, and happy to see Sachin khedekar getting a good and important role in the movie.

Tabu’s role was good but even she had nothing much to do in the movie except one scene with Jayaram.

Samuthirakani as an antagonist is particularly good in one of the scenes where he stabs Jayaram and locks all the ways in the office to avoid anyone taking him to the hospital, his diction and his evil smile and slurping sound he makes occasionally all were good. It will be interesting to see what this actor will bring to the table in SS Rajamouli’s Next RRR.

Rajendra Prasad garu, Vennela Kishore, Navdeep, Sunil, Harshavardhan, Rahul Ramakrishna, Brahmaji, Ajay all are used to give us comic relief which mostly worked out well.

Special mention to all the Choreographers of dances and fights, they are so eye catching and worked so well with the movie.

P.S. Vinod’s cinematography is beautiful especially in songs.

But apart from all these praises the complaint with Trivikram remains the same, he just didn’t care about writing a good well fleshed out characters to his lady leads. Both Pooja Hegde and Nivetha Pethuraj had nothing to do in the movie apart from dancing with the hero and showing their legs. I wish someday he writes something good for his heroines.


I will watch this movie again for that well written, well executed, well performed Second half of the movie.
