Sarileru Neekevvaru – Expected another Dookudu but…

Look I enjoy Anil Ravipudi movies, though they are silly and outright ridiculous sometimes but they are healthy fun for me, where entire family can sit and watch, have good popcorn and just have a good time in theaters without getting deep in to the layers of the characters or the story, he is like Rohit Shetty of Telugu Film Industry (minus the action blocks ofcourse).

Coming to Mahesh babu, honestly speaking I was missing Mahesh babu’s comic timing after Khaleja and Dookudu, now-a-days his movies became so similar to each other and his role in recent movies had such one tone characterization that it was giving dangerously monotonous feeling, hence when this movie was announced I felt this is a perfect combination, coming at a perfect time to bring back that energetic side of Mahesh babu again on screen.

And yes Ravipudi did bring that forgotten Khaleja and Dookudu days Mahesh on screen with impeccable comic timing and unique mannerisms, but sadly Ravipudi couldn’t manage to bring much good to the table for the movie.

Movie starts on shaky grounds after a brief introduction to Mrs. Vijaya shanti’s character, in which a serious situation in Kashmir is used as a comic relief to introduce the character traits of Mahesh, honestly this scene could have worked if it was a Allari Naresh’s movie but it looked very odd here. Then it goes on to the much hyped train episode which falls flat except for very few laughs here and there.

Having said that not everything is bad, movie did gets the right track approx. 20 mins before the intermission and Ravipudi gives absolute treat to Mahesh babu fans with high octane Kondareddi Buruju action episode, which is also a nice ode to Mahesh’s career defining Okkadu. And these high octane action episodes continue till 30 mins post intermission up to an action scene in Prakash Raj’s home, honestly if the movie had ended at this point, it could’ve become a blockbuster. But unfortunately director drags this one for 1 more painful hour, where all the good which was served till now gets diluted and audience might leave the theater thinking what was the point of all this!

What I love the most in Ravipudi movies is the unique comic characters he brings on to the table every time, be it Prithivi raj and Prabhas seenu’s ‘Amazing zing zing’ block, or Sivanarayana naripeddi’s One word ‘Coffee’ character or Prithivi Raj’s ‘Jhakass’ track, or be it ‘Anthe ga Anthe ga’ husband character played by Mr.pradeep, or be it Varun tej’s father character who always discuss Tv Serials with neighbor aunties played by Surender reddy in F2. Because of these the comedy in his movies always feels so fresh.

Much to my disappointment there is not one such character in this movie, many artists come and go in the movie like Sangeetha, Rashmika Mandana, Rajendra Prasad, Vennela Kishore, Bandla ganesh, Rao Ramesh, Jayaprakash reddy, Posani Krishna Murali but no one leaves any impact or makes us laugh out loud.

Mr.Prakash Raj as the main antagonist did good but you have seen him do this sort of roles a trillion times before, It was so good to see Mrs. Vijaya shanti on screen after such a long gap though.

Devi Sri Prasad’s Music is Ok, Dang Dang and Mind Block looked good and Choreographed well for the screen, but his BGM was a Mixed bag where sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t.

Ratnavelu’s Cinematography is good and blends in the movie.

Mahesh Babu shines big time in this movie, breaking all his previous monotonous acts from srimanthudu to maharshi, he literally is the saving grace of this film because the only person you will remember after coming out of this movie is him and his mannerisms and comic timing.

Finally, this weekend another director wasted another opportunity to use the stardom of another big star to tell a good story.

Note:

Dear Tollywood Directors,

Hire Good writers, pay them good salaries, let them develop and write your stories, let them cross check your scripts again before you go on to the sets.
